The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has charged the newly appointed acting inspector general of police, Tunji Disu, to champion a renewed and strategic approach to tackling insecurity across Nigeria.
According to a statement he personally signed on Thursday, the monarch congratulated Disu on the appointment.
He described Disu’s appointment as opportune, particularly during a period marked by intricate security challenges confronting the nation.
The royal father conveyed confidence in the acting IGP’s experience, operational proficiency, and leadership abilities.
He noted that his track record within the Nigeria Police Force has prepared him to deliver focused, results-driven leadership.
The monarch advocated for a revamped security approach centred on intelligence-led policing, enhanced officer welfare, community engagement, and closer cooperation with other security agencies.
He said that restoring public confidence in the police remained critical to achieving lasting peace and stability.
The traditional ruler urged officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to rally behind the acting IG in order to consolidate ongoing reforms and reposition the force as a professional, accountable, and people-oriented institution.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for his decisive leadership and reaffirmed the traditional institution’s commitment to supporting all lawful and constitutional efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
Ooni commended former IGP Kayode Egbetokun for his years of service to the nation and prayed for his continued success in future endeavours.
