Christians’ killings: No one should celebrate Trump’s war threat, says Sowore

Activist and journalist Omoyele Sowore has spoken out against former US President Donald Trump’s threat to launch military action in Nigeria over the treatment of Christians.

Sowore, in a post he shared on his social media accounts on Sunday said such action would be perilous and that Nigeria’s problems require legitimate, accountable leadership, not foreign intervention.

According to Sowore, Trump’s proposal is not a solution to Nigeria’s issues, but rather a recipe for disaster, pointing to the failed military interventions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria as examples of the devastating consequences of such actions.

“Nigeria’s deliverance will never come from abroad,” Sowore asserted. “It must come from within, through real leadership and national renewal.”

In a recent social media post, Sowore emphasised that Nigeria needs leaders who protect all citizens, uphold justice, and end corruption and violence.

He stated that only through genuine leadership can Nigeria overcome its challenges and achieve true progress.

The controversy surrounding Trump’s threat comes amid heightened tensions between the US and Nigeria.

Trump had designated Nigeria a country of concern in 2015 due to religious persecution, and recently re-designated it under his administration.

Critics argue that such actions are an affront to Nigeria’s sovereignty and that the country’s problems require homegrown solutions.
