The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has accused the Federal Government of negotiating with bandits terrorising the country.
The allegation was made by the Secretary-General of CUPP, Peter Ameh, during an interview on Channels Television on Monday.
He said, “It is clear that there is some level of discussion between the government and bandits.
“We have a state that has to go into discussion and negotiation with bandits giving them a territory within our own sovereign state.
“So it’s very frightening because the details that they keep telling will come later are not clear enough because if you keep on with this negotiation with armed bandits who are terrorising vulnerable schoolchildren and communities, you will continue to embolden them.
“Nigeria is very big. These bandits have done this act in many communities of different states in the country. These financial negotiation with them would embolden their financial strengths to even cause more mayhem.”
He also criticised politicians defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) stating that the defectors lack shame and respect for the electorate.
“Those defecting to the APC don’t have shame and respect for the electorate. You contested against this party you are defecting to on the day of the election.
“Except if you feel you rigged your election because the electorate went to the polls, saw APC, PDP and Labour Party on the ballot and decided to ignore the APC and voted for you.
“You were canvassing on the manifesto of your party and now you are moving to another party. This is about morality.
“We hope that one day the people will wake up and determine their own future. They did it in 2023 but there were no structures to defend it. So they need to go to the next level and say we do it again, we are not giving up because this country deserves better,” he said.
