The death toll from Tuesday’s bandits’ attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kwara State’s Kaiama local government area has risen to 86.
Two children of the Woro community village head were among those killed by bandits in the Tuesday attack, according to multiple sources who spoke to Leadership.
The bandits also torched the village head’s palace, several residential buildings, and shops in Woro community, leaving widespread destruction.
A source said, “The casualties are over 40 as we speak and soldiers and forest guards have taken over the two communities.”
However, Hon. Aliyu Mande, a community leader and former state lawmaker from Kaiama, believes the death toll is actually over 40, contradicting the earlier figure.
“My brother, the casualty figure is more than 40. It’s about 86 and two children of the village head were among the victims. One of the village’s head children that were killed just graduated from the School of Nursing in 2025.
“The bandits also burnt the village head’s palace, shops and residential buildings. We are indeed devastated. The loss of lives and property is huge and unimaginable,” Mande said.
A resident of Woro community, Alh. Usman Ibrahim Woro, who lives in the community, put the casualty figure at 80.
Recall that the armed bandits had around 5.30pm on Tuesday launched a deadly attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama local government area, killing 10 persons and burning houses.
