Disregard suspension of our congresses, Kogi ADC tells members

The Kogi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed a directive claiming that party congresses in the state have been suspended, urging members to ignore the announcement.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Abdumalik Suleiman, described the suspension notice—allegedly issued by the outgoing State Chairman, Kingsley Ogga—as invalid and misleading.

According to Suleiman, the former chairman does not possess the constitutional powers to halt congress activities, stressing that such authority rests solely with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

He noted that any attempt to stop the process at the state level amounts to an overreach and a violation of party rules.

He further explained that the action contradicts existing party guidelines and goes against a resolution of the National Executive Committee (NEC), which had earlier approved the continuation of all congress processes leading up to the national convention.

Suleiman maintained that the NWC has already authorised the conduct of the congresses and that no individual or state organ has the right to countermand that decision.

He called on aspirants, delegates, and party faithful across Kogi State to remain calm and proceed with preparations, assuring them that the ward, local government, state, and national congresses will go ahead as planned.

Reaffirming the party’s stance, Suleiman said the ADC in the state remains committed to upholding internal democracy, due process, and the rule of law.

He warned that any attempt to disrupt the party’s timetable through unauthorised directives would be treated as a disciplinary offence.
