The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash O. Amupitan, on Monday called on staff of the Commission to remain committed to sacrifice, professionalism and renewed dedication as Christians mark the Easter season.

In a personally signed Easter message addressed to National Commissioners, the Secretary to the Commission, Resident Electoral Commissioners, Directors, Administrative Secretaries and other staff across the country, Amupitan described Easter as a period that symbolises hope, renewal and the triumph of sacrifice.

He noted that the values associated with the season align closely with the Commission’s mandate of safeguarding democracy and ensuring credible elections.

“As we join millions across the globe and here at home to celebrate Easter, I extend my warmest greetings to you and your families. Easter is a profound season that speaks to the triumph of hope over despair, the power of sacrifice, and the promise of renewal.

“For us at the Commission, these themes are not merely spiritual; they are the very pillars upon which our service to the nation rests,” he said.

The INEC Chairman commended staff for their dedication, particularly for their efforts during the recently concluded FCT Area Council elections, describing their performance as professional and commendable.

He stated that the successful conduct of elections, even under challenging conditions, reflects the commitment of staff to strengthening public confidence in democratic institutions.

“Your work at INEC often performed under demanding conditions and away from the comfort of your homes is a testament to your sacrifice for our democracy.Whether in our local government offices or the headquarters, your labour ensures that the light of democracy continues to burn bright,” he added.

Looking ahead, Amupitan urged staff to remain focused as the Commission prepares for upcoming off-cycle elections and continues implementation of its roadmap toward the 2027 general elections.

He emphasized the need for renewed dedication, discipline, and the adoption of modern tools to improve electoral administration, noting that the Commission is working to build a more transparent and efficient electoral ecosystem.

“As we look toward the forthcoming off-cycle elections and the critical milestones in our 2027 roadmap, let this season of renewal inspire a fresh dedication to our duties. Our mandate to protect the sovereign will requires a spirit that does not tire,” he said.

The Chairman also encouraged staff to uphold neutrality, professionalism, and ethical conduct in their interactions with stakeholders, stressing that they represent the face of electoral credibility in the country.

“Let the lessons of Easter—peace, love, and selfless service—guide your interactions with all stakeholders. By maintaining the highest standards of neutrality and professionalism, you become the true ambassadors of transparency and the rule of law,” he stated.

Amupitan concluded his message by wishing staff a peaceful Easter celebration and prayed for strength, unity, and continued progress for the Commission and the country at large.

“Happy Easter to you all. God bless the hardworking INEC staff. God bless INEC. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he added.
