The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Christopher Enweremadu, former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Abia State, wanted over allegations of corruption and money laundering.
According to the EFCC, Enweremadu is accused of criminal conspiracy, diversion of public funds, stealing, and money laundering. The commission has asked anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact any of its zonal offices.
Enweremadu, who served under former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, has previously been linked to investigations into the handling of funds for local government councils in Abia. A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja had ordered a probe into funds allocated to 17 local government areas in Abia between 2019 and 2023 and directed the EFCC to submit its investigation report.
The court also ordered the seizure of Enweremadu’s international travel documents, along with those of two other former state officials. The EFCC’s latest move suggests that the investigation is ongoing, and the commission is determined to bring Enweremadu to justice.
The commission has recently declared other individuals wanted, including Abdullahi Bashir Haske, an entrepreneur linked to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
