A former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has distanced himself from all political position in the 2027 general elections.
While receiving defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party into the African Democratic Congress in Kadunq on Wednesday, the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory said his renewed involvement in politics was not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to support credible leadership at all levels.
Stating that his plan when he left office in 2023 was to step away from partisan politics, El-Rufai said unfolding national developments compelled him to return, stressing that his focus was now on mentoring young people, women, and reform-minded Nigerians to actively participate in governance.
“I am not contesting for anything. I don’t want to go to the Senate. I am not seeking any position.
“When I finished my tenure as governor, I intended to rest. But given the way things have turned out, I believe we must play our part to bring about better leadership. That is why we are back in politics,” he said.
He urged young people in Kaduna and across the country to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise, noting that their participation was crucial to changing the political landscape.
