No fewer than 11 students of Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, have been arrested over the killing of two fellow students.
The deceased students, Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa, were allegedly attacked by colleagues using local metal objects known as “Gwale-Gwale”.
This was disclosed on Thursday by Abdullahi Haruna, the spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command who noted that the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the command.
According to the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the students were arrested to determine their level of involvement in the crime.
“Eleven students were arrested over the incident and the investigation is ongoing to find out the level of their individual involvement,” he said.
Haruna vowed that the police would do everything possible to solve the students’ murders and prosecute all involved.
The state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, had on Wednesday ordered a full investigation into the deaths.
The directive was given through the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashir Bappa Mohammad, during a visit to the school on Wednesday.
