A Nigerian cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has called on the people of Venezuela to adopt Islam, asserting that the religion can provide the moral foundation needed to overcome the country’s social issues.
Gumi, in a post he made via Facebook on Saturday, emphasised that Islam offers a robust moral framework to combat problems such as drug abuse and empowers individuals to resist external manipulation and oppression.
Gumi stated that Islam remains a potent force capable of countering the injustices and hypocrisy prevalent in today’s world.
He expressed confidence that embracing Islam would equip Venezuelans with the moral rectitude to reject harmful practices and the courage to challenge forces of oppression, including what he termed imperial subjugation.
He wrote, “Venezuelans should adopt Islam. That will give them the moral rectitude to leave drugs, and the courage to repel the Devil and imperial subjugation. Islam remains the only force that is a substitute for the current world’s injustice and hypocrisy.”
The United States President, Donald Trump, in the early hours of Saturday announced that the U.S. struck Venezuela and captured its President, Nicolas Maduro, who has been taken out of the country.
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the country,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.
The U.S. has not made such a direct intervention in Latin American since the invasion of Panama in 1989 to depose military leader Manuel Noriega.
Trump’s administration claimed the attack on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was due to his alleged involvement in drug trafficking and narco-terrorism.
Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured and flown out of the country, with the US Justice Department charging them with Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, and other related offenses.
The Trump administration had previously designated Venezuela’s Cartel de los Soles a Foreign Terrorist Organization, and Trump had repeatedly threatened Maduro, accusing him of running a “narco-state” and rigging elections.
