Renowned Nigerian evangelist and spiritual leader, of Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has died at the age of 80.
The preacher’s death was confirmed on Monday, in a statement by his family, stating that Ukpai passed away on 6 October 2025.
The family described his passing as a “glorious transition” from a life of devoted service to eternal rest.
The family said, “He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity.
“His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for years to come.”
The family expressed gratitude for the life and work of Ukpai, highlighting that while they mourn his physical absence, they rejoice that he has “finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise.”
They assured the public that details of his obsequies would be shared in due course.
Born on January 7, 1945, in Asaga, Ohafia, Abia State, Rev. Ukpai dedicated his life to spreading the gospel and empowering believers through his dynamic teachings, prophetic demonstrations, and humanitarian initiatives.
His early life was marked by challenges, including the loss of his father at age 10, which instilled in him compassion for the poor and vulnerable.
Rev. Ukpai’s ministry spanned over six decades, during which he established himself as a leading figure in Nigerian Christianity. He was instrumental in founding the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and served as a key leader in the organization.
Through UUEA, he organised major gospel campaigns, leadership training programs, and humanitarian initiatives aimed at improving lives and strengthening the church. His commitment to both spiritual and social transformation made him a unique and impactful servant of God.
One of Rev. Ukpai’s notable contributions was his emphasis on holistic ministry, which addressed both spiritual and physical needs.
He founded several institutions, including the Uma Ukpai Eye Centre, King of Kings Hospital, Uma Ukpai Polytechnic, and Uma Ukpai School of Theology and Biblical Studies.
These institutions provided quality education, healthcare, and vocational training, empowering individuals to excel in their chosen fields while remaining anchored in their faith. His humanitarian efforts also included scholarship programs, medical outreaches, and support for widows, orphans, and vulnerable populations.
