Ex-CJN Uwais is dead

A former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Lawal Uwais, has died.

He died at the age of 89.

Uwais, who served for 11 years from 1995 to 2006 as CJN died in Abuja on Friday, according to family sources.

Uwais was born on June 12, 1936.

He was the Chief Justice of Nigeria from 1995 to 2006.

He chaired a commission that published a much-publicised report on electoral reform.

The reform was, however, not implemented by the Federal Government.

His remains are to be buried today according to Islamic rites.
