Bayero University Kano has announced the passing of Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega, wife of former Vice-Chancellor of the institution and former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega.
In a statement posted on its official social media page, the Bayero University Kano confirmed her death on Sunday, describing the loss as a moment of deep sorrow.
The university stated, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega.”
It added that her Janazah prayer would be conducted immediately after Zuhr at the National Mosque in Abuja on Sunday, April 5, 2026.
BUK also prayed for the repose of the deceased, saying, “May Allah grant her Aljannatul Firdaus and forgive her shortcomings. May He also grant the family the strength and patience to bear this loss. Ameen.”
Meanwhile, former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has expressed condolences to Prof. Jega and his family, describing the death as a painful and irreparable loss.
Malami, in his condolence message, said, “Innalillahi wa innailaihi raji’un. I extend my deepest condolences to Professor Attahiru Jega and his entire family on the passing of his beloved wife, Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega.
“This is indeed a painful and irreplaceable loss. Hajiya Hadiza was a woman of grace, dignity, and remarkable virtue whose life impacted many beyond her immediate family. Her contributions to family, community, and society will not be forgotten.
“At this moment of grief, I pray that Almighty Allah grants her Aljannatul Firdaus and gives Prof. Jega and the entire family the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss.”
