The Federal Government has announced Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays in observance of this year’s Easter celebration.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration in a statement issued on Wednesday, extending congratulations to Christians in Nigeria and across the diaspora.
April 3 will be observed as Good Friday, while April 6 has been designated as Easter Monday.
In his message, Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to reflect on the core values symbolised by the Easter season, including selflessness, forgiveness, tolerance, and love, as demonstrated in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
He also called on citizens to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence, noting that Easter serves as a reminder of the shared values that bind the nation together.
According to the minister, Nigerians should remain committed to these ideals in order to foster national progress and stability.
Tunji-Ojo further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to implementing policies aimed at driving economic growth and achieving shared prosperity, adding that the administration remains focused on decisions that will promote national renewal.
He wished Christians a peaceful and joyful Easter celebration.
