The Federal Government on Tuesday approved a landmark subsidy to ease the cost of kidney dialysis for Nigerians.

This was made public by a presidential aide, Temitope Ajayi, in a post he made on his Facebook page, where he listed 10 federal hospitals where the dialysis was subsidised.

He confirmed that the President Bola Tinubu government will pay N38,000 out of the N50,000 for dialysis.

He identified the hospitals as: Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute-Metta, Lagos; Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja; University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan; Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri and University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Maiduguri.

Others are: Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta; Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos; Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare; University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin and University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar.

In the post, Ajayi said, “The Tinubu-led administration has increased access to patients of kidney ailments with the approval of a landmark subsidy to ease the cost of dialysis for Nigerians.

“With this intervention, the price of each dialysis session has been reduced from ₦50,000 to just ₦12,000, bringing relief to thousands of citizens battling kidney-related diseases.”

The post added that the FG will add more federal medical centres and teaching hospitals before the end of the year to widen access nationwide.

He continued, “It would be recalled that last year, President Tinubu also approved free cesarean sections (C-sections) for pregnant women in federal hospitals, a bold step aimed at boosting maternal healthcare and reducing preventable maternal deaths.

“Together, these measures demonstrate the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda in action—ensuring that no Nigerian is denied healthcare because of cost.”
