FG sets minimum tertiary institution admission age at 16

The Federal Government on Tuesday prohibited the admission of any person under the age of 16 years into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

This was announced at the opening session of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) 2025 Policy Meeting by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.

Alausa said, “This policy decision reflects a balance between cognitive maturity and academic preparedness. 16 years is non-negotiable.”

He further warned heads of institutions against compromising, threatening legal actions against anyone found guilty.
