FG sets up committee for Buhari’s burial

The Federal Government has set up a committee to oversee the burial of Former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away yesterday in a hospital in London.

This was contained in a statement by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris on Monday.

Idris disclosed that President Bola Tinubu approved the constitution of an Inter-Ministerial Committee for the State Funeral of the late former President, Buhari.

The statement also directed that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, will head the committee, which is tasked with the responsibility of planning and coordinating a befitting state burial for the late elder statesman.

Other Members of the Committee include Wales Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning and Abubakar Badaru, Minister of Defence;

Other members of the committee include Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Dave Umahi, Minister of Works, Tunji Ojo, Minister of Interior and Nyesom Wike, Minister of FCT

The committee will also have the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare; Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy and the National Security Adviser

The Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Inspector General of Police, Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS) and Chief of Defence Staff.

Tinubu further directed that the Office of the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office (GSO), should be used as the Secretariat to the Committee.

“In honour of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, President Tinubu has also directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to open condolence registers at the entrance of their respective offices for the public to pay their respects to the late Elder Statesman.

“Additionally, a central condolence register for the diplomatic community and the general public will be opened at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja,” the statement read partly.
