Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following a fresh outbreak of communal violence, as tensions continue to escalate in the region.
This announcement was made in a statement signed by Hussaini Hammangabdo, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor’s office, on Monday.
According to the statement, Governor Fintiri has directed security agencies to deploy to the affected areas in Lamurde, with a mandate to swiftly restore peace and order amid the renewed communal tensions.
The statement reads, “The Adamawa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect following a renewed communal clash that broke out on Sunday evening.
“Signed by Hussaini Hammangabdo, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, security agencies have been directed to move into the area and restore peace and order without delay.”
The government is urging residents of Lamurde to remain calm and cooperate fully with security operatives as efforts are underway to prevent further escalation.
The communal clashes in Lamurde Local Government Area (LGA) of Adamawa State in 2025 have been marked by violence between communities like Chobo and Bachama, resulting in loss of lives, destruction of homes, and mass displacement. The clashes, which erupted in July and August, prompted Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to impose a 24-hour curfew to restore order. Security agencies were swiftly deployed to the area to prevent further escalation and ensure peace.
In response to the crisis, the Gongola People’s Forum (GPF) submitted a comprehensive peace report to Governor Fintiri, highlighting the root causes of the conflict and proposing lasting solutions. The governor has directed the formation of a technical committee to harmonize the report’s recommendations for rapid implementation, aiming to bring relief to displaced persons and rebuild affected communities. Efforts are underway to promote reconciliation and strengthen security in the region.
