Fire ravages two-storey commercial building in Abuja

The Federal Fire Service promptly responded to a fire outbreak on Wednesday at a two-storey commercial building in Utako, FCT–Abuja, following an emergency report by a concerned resident.

Upon arrival, firefighters met the building already engulfed in flames and immediately commenced firefighting operations to bring the situation under control.

Six male casualties, aged between 25 and 57, sustained varying degrees of burns and injuries and were later evacuated to hospitals for medical attention.

A baby was reportedly thrown from a balcony and narrowly caught by bystanders below.

A statement by the National PRO / Head, Corporate Services of the agency, DCF P.O. Abraham said that the “Service strongly cautions the public against such dangerous acts during emergencies, as they could lead to tragic outcomes.”

He added that “preliminary assessment estimates property loss at about ₦45 million, while prompt intervention by the FFS saved property valued at approximately ₦705 million.”

He added that the cause of the fire was under investigation to unravel the remote and actual cause of the incident.

“The Federal Fire Service urges members of the public to remain calm, report fire outbreaks immediately, and adhere to fire safety precautions at all times, ” he added.
