Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholor has vowed to resign from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to win the state in the 2027 presidential election, underscoring his confidence in the incumbent’s chances in his home turf.
In an interview captured in a viral video, Okpebholor pledged his confidence in President Tinubu, predicting a victory for him.
According to him, the entire people in Edo State are ready to vote for the president, citing projects that his (Okpebholor) administration executed since the All Progressives Congress, APC took over the state.
He claimed that there is no opposition in the state, stressing that everyone is supporting the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said, “There is no opposition here in Edo everybody is for Asiwaju in this state.
“Tinubu is more popular than me in Edo state. If he doesn’t win the presidential election in Edo in 2027, I will resign.”
The relationship between President Tinubu and Governor Okpebholor appears to be one of strong political alliance and mutual admiration.
In various statements, the governor has emphasised Tinubu’s popularity in Edo, citing the projects his administration has implemented.
Their rapport also seems rooted in shared governance priorities and party loyalty. Tinubu has praised Okpebholor’s leadership, commending his focus on grassroots development and urging him to maintain unity in Edo State post-election.
Okpebholor, in turn, has echoed Tinubu’s reform agenda, implementing policies in Edo that mirror the president’s national initiatives – like infrastructure development and economic empowerment programs.
The governor’s active mobilisation for Tinubu’s 2027 campaign – including pledging “100 percent votes” in Edo and targeting 3.5 million votes for the president – underscores a strategic political partnership where Okpebholor positions himself as a key regional anchor for the APC and Tinubu’s re-election efforts.
