Harassing presidential aides, desecration of authority they speak for – Segalink

Human rights activist, Segun Awosanya, has warned Nigerians against targeting officials of the Presidency, describing such actions as an affront to the authority they represent.

Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, made this known in a post shared on X on Thursday, where he cautioned against growing trends of online harassment, misinformation, and attempts to create disaffection among public office holders.

He stressed that officials serving in the Presidency act on behalf of the highest office in the land and should not be singled out for attacks.

“Targeting any one of them for harassment is tantamount to the desecration of the authority they all speak for,” he said.

The activist specifically referenced presidential aides, including Bayo Onanuga, Sunday Dare, and Daniel Bwala, noting that they were all appointed by Bola Ahmed Tinubu and serve at his discretion.

According to him, public criticism must not degenerate into deliberate attempts to sow division or weaken governance structures. He urged Nigerians to exercise restraint and avoid actions capable of undermining national unity.

“If you truly love Nigeria and sincerely desire her progress, you will steadfastly refuse to entangle yourself in the petty manufacture of confusion or disaffection among public figures,” Awosanya stated.

He further argued that patriotism can be expressed not only through active contributions but also through responsible conduct, including rejecting disinformation and avoiding unnecessary drama.

“If you can’t contribute anything tangible to the nation’s growth, let your deliberate avoidance of drama and refusal to weaponise disinformation stand as quiet but powerful proof of your patriotism,” he added.

Awosanya also cautioned against comparing or pitting government officials against one another, warning that such narratives complicate governance and distract from their responsibilities.

“They have distinct assignments, they need not be compared, deliberately misconstrued, or pitted against one another,” he said.

His comments come amid heightened political conversations and increasing scrutiny of government officials, particularly on social media platforms, where debates over governance and accountability have intensified in recent times.
