Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has called on Nigerians to become more vocal about the country’s economic challenges, warning that silence on governance issues is no longer sustainable.
The actor made the call in a video shared on his Instagram page, where he reflected on his previous reluctance to engage in political discussions, describing such a stance as misguided in the face of current realities.
“There’s nothing like sitting on the fence anymore. It doesn’t make any sense. We should be talking about what is happening in the nation and trying to fix it,” he said.
Remi’s comments come against the backdrop of rising living costs, particularly the increasing price of fuel and persistent electricity shortages, which he said are putting immense pressure on everyday life.
Speaking from personal experience, the actor lamented the financial strain of powering his home and workplace due to unreliable electricity supply.
“You don’t have light. Diesel is expensive. Fuel is expensive. It’s becoming unbearable,” he said.
He also highlighted the ripple effects of the situation on workers, noting that rising transport fares are making it difficult for many to commute to work, while wages remain largely unchanged.
“My staff are telling me that even coming to work is now a problem because transport costs are going up, and salaries are no longer enough,” he added.
Remi further expressed frustration over Nigeria’s dependence on limited refining capacity despite being a resource-rich nation, questioning why fuel prices continue to surge.
“A country that is so blessed is still struggling with fuel. It’s confusing and stressful,” he said.
The actor’s remarks reflect growing public concern over the rising cost of living, as many Nigerians continue to grapple with inflation, high energy costs, and declining purchasing power.
