The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has disclosed plans to explore two options in electing its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
Some analysts have argued that because of the bigwigs in the party, there might be a crisis in electing who to face President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The party boasts of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, and presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election, Peter Obi, all of whom have declared their intention to contest.
However, the spokesman of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi on Channels TV, revealed that the party is considering a consensus and primary election.
Abdullahi said the party will go into a primary election if a consensus fails.
He said, “We are preoccupied with the development of our party and building structures and putting up necessary systems that will show Nigerians that we are indeed a democratic party.
“Along the line, we are going to act on who becomes the party’s flagbearer and we are going to do so in a very transparent and democratic way.
“We have two options. One of the options on the table is to engineer a consensus and if that is not achieved, we go into primaries that will be transparent and whoever emerges, the party supports.”
