I anticipated Trump’s mass visa revocation – Soyinka

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has said he anticipated the first action United States President, Donald Trump, would take after assuming power for a second term was the mass revocation of visas and green cards.

Speaking during an interview shared by BBC News Pidgin on Facebook, Soyinka stated that he has always known that Trump is a “petty-minded dictator.”

Soyinka had earlier disclosed that his B1/B2 visa to the United States was revoked without any justification during an interactive session with journalists.

However, the Public Diplomacy Officer of the United States Embassy in Lagos, Julia McKay, responded to the allegation by asserting that U.S. entry visas are privileges, not rights.

Speaking about the incumbent U.S. president in his latest chat, Soyinka insisted he is not shocked by his recent actions.

In this latest interview, the respected writer said, “This is a petty-minded dictator, you see how he deals with his objects of hate.

“We saw that dark side of the American side. There were more killings, extrajudicial killings by the police of black people, of minorities, during that build-up, during the campaign, and on account of hate rhetoric, the hate rhetoric of this individual.

“I saw it and I said, listen very carefully — and you can go and check this –I said, ‘When that man comes to power, the first thing he will do is cancel even the green cards’.”
