Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has disclosed that he spent six to seven months consulting with various groups before deciding to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Eno, a former PDP member, explained during an interview on Arise Television on Friday that he had to convince the people of Akwa Ibom State why he believed in the policies and reforms of President Bola Tinubu.

The governor’s consultation period involved engaging with different stakeholders, explaining the benefits of the president’s policies, and justifying his decision to support the administration.

Governor Eno stated, “It took me close to six or seven months of explaining to several groups why I believe we must support this president.”

After the consultation period, Governor Eno decided to support the president’s policies, citing the positive impact of reforms such as tax and electricity reforms.

He said his decision reflects a calculated approach to political realignment, prioritising the interests of his state.

“Personally, I’m convinced beyond any doubt that this president is doing well, and I have several instances to support that,” Eno stated.

Eno added, “The president has implemented reforms, such as tax and electricity reforms. Our state recently had an electricity summit, allowing states to participate in the electricity market. We’ve generated 191 megawatts of power and put it into the national grid.

“The president’s bold decision to remove fuel subsidies, despite its unpopularity, has allowed states to receive funds to provide essential services. I wish people could see the positive impact of these reforms on the ground.”
