Former Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, has denied calling for Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s resignation after his switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement on Monday in Jos by Clinton Garuba, Jang’s media consultant, the former governor clarified that his comments were taken out of context and that he was actually criticising politicians who defect from their parties, rather than demanding Mutfwang’s resignation.
“The attention of Sen. Jonah David Jang has been drawn to a misleading report in some print and online media outlets.
“The report attempts to portray him as calling on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to resign following his defection from the PDP to the APC,” the statement read.
“For clarity, Jang was quoted out of context. At no time during the PDP stakeholders’ meeting did he call for Mutfwang’s resignation.
“Rather, he criticised politicians for leaving their parties to join others,” Garuba added.
The media aide further urged Plateau residents to disregard such reports and continue supporting the governor to succeed.
The rebuttal follows reports on Sunday claiming that Jang, while speaking at a PDP stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, had asked Mutfwang to resign and contest a fresh election for defecting from the party.
