Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade has claimed that for 10 years playing for FC Robo Queens in the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) she was not paid a salary.
The star who spoke during an interview with Chude Jideonwo, described her time playing football in the NWFL as “a tough moment”.
She added that she grew up in the Mushin area of Lagos State in a compound that had almost 100 people in it, adding that she had to wash people’s toilets and bathrooms for financial gain.
“During that phase when I was in Nigeria and playing the professional league with FC Robo Queens, it was really a tough moment for me. I played there for 10 years without a salary,” she said.
Ajibade has been open about her rocky upbringing before football stardom.
Recently, the 25-year-old revealed that she used to hawk bottles of olive oil and refreshment drinks at the deliverance programmes organised by the Mountain of Fire Miracle Ministry (MFM).
Ajibade captained the Super Falcons to win the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The triumph is Nigeria’s 10th continental title, and Ajibade was also named the best player of the tournament.
Ajibade came through the ranks of FC Robo Queens in Lagos and played for the team until she moved to Avaldsnes IL in Norway at the age of 17.
She then joined Atletico Madrid Feminino in 2021.
