The Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), May Agbamuche-Mbu, on Tuesday held a meeting with political party chairmen and secretaries at the commission’s Abuja headquarters on Tuesday.
The meeting, which marked her first official engagement with political parties since assuming office in an acting capacity, was part of INEC’s series of consultative sessions with stakeholders ahead of the November 2025 Anambra governorship election.
According to the Commission in a post on its official X account, the interactive session was designed to provide an avenue for robust discussions with political parties on critical issues relating to the conduct of the upcoming election.
Speaking during the meeting, Agbamuche-Mbu highlighted the commission’s preparations for upcoming elections, including the Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
Agbamuche noted that the commission has completed 10 out of 13 key activities for the Anambra State Governorship Election, with the remaining activities including the publication of the Notice of Poll on October 25, 2025, and the last day for campaigns on November 6, 2025.
The INEC Acting Chairman assured that the commission is working assiduously to ensure the successful conduct of the election, with arrangements being made with security agencies at all levels. He urged political parties to adhere to the electoral timetable and schedule of activities.
Agbamuche also briefed the political parties on the commission’s recent activities, including the bye-elections held on August 16, 2025, and the Area Council Elections in the FCT scheduled for February 21, 2026. He expressed appreciation for the contributions of the former Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, to the development of democracy in Nigeria.
Agbamuche-Mbu will act as INEC chair until the National Assembly confirms Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, who was approved as the new chair by the National Council of State last week.
