INEC: ADC coalition members are frustrated clowns, says Fani-Kayode

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has lashed out at members of the coalition within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing them as “frustrated clowns”.

This is amid the party’s ongoing leadership crisis and recent developments involving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Recall that INEC, Wednesday, announced that it no longer recognises the faction of the ADC led by former Senate President, David Mark following the judgment of the Court of Appeal and subsequent legal directives tied to the party’s leadership dispute.

In a strongly worded Facebook post shared on Thursday, Fani-Kayode mocked the coalition, suggesting that recent actions by INEC and court rulings have left its members politically stranded and without a credible platform.

“Given the fact that they have been castrated by the courts and INEC and they no longer have a party and platform to stand and run on… the ADC now have more to worry about,” he wrote.

The former minister went further to deride the coalition’s relevance, branding its members as unserious political actors who have failed to build a stable and united opposition.

“Who are the ones that have been rejected now? They have been rejected by the courts, rejected by INEC and rejected by the Nigerian people,” he stated.

Fani-Kayode argued that the internal wrangling within the ADC has exposed what he described as deep-rooted structural weaknesses, insisting that the coalition lacks the discipline and cohesion required to govern.

“They can’t even form a party and hold it together, yet they want to rule Nigeria? God forbid!” he added.

He also dismissed the coalition’s chances in the 2027 general elections, claiming the political battle is already lost and urging members to instead focus on long-term rebuilding.

“May I suggest that they channel all their energy to building a real opposition party over the next five years and then field a candidate for 2031. Given the circumstances, that is their best bet because 2027 is already lost to them.”

Fani-Kayode further accused the group of relying on rhetoric and media theatrics rather than offering tangible solutions to national challenges.

“This is what happens when all you do is pose for group shots, talk on television… and lament from morning till night without offering any concrete solutions,” he said.

The comments come at a time of heightened tension within the ADC, following recent controversies surrounding its leadership and INEC’s position on recognised party officials, developments that have continued to generate debate over the party’s legitimacy and future.
