Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, on Sunday berated the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, accusing him of poor leadership and insensitivity amid rising insecurity in parts of the state.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Sowore alleged that the governor had failed to respond adequately to the worsening security situation, particularly in Akure North, where residents have reportedly faced incidents of killings and kidnappings.
He criticised Aiyedatiwa for what he described as a disconnect from the plight of the people, claiming that while communities were under threat, the governor was attending a social function in Lagos.
“The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has once again demonstrated a troubling lack of leadership at a time when his people need him most,” Sowore wrote, further describing him as “one of the most useless governors in Nigeria.”
Sowore also recounted a recent encounter with the governor’s convoy, alleging that Aiyedatiwa appeared preoccupied with official engagements outside the state despite the ongoing security challenges.
“Just last weekend, I ran into his convoy trapped in major traffic after he was returning from an airport commissioning in another state, seemingly detached from the urgent security crisis at home,” he added.
The activist went further to liken the governor’s leadership style to that of former Liberian ruler Samuel Doe, describing him as “the ‘Samuel Doe’ of Akure,” in a remark that underscores his strong disapproval of the administration’s handling of security issues.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Government has not issued an official response to the allegations.
