Iran has launched fresh ballistic missile attacks on Israel in response to the joint US-Israel military strikes that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
About nine people have been reportedly killed, 27 injured, 11 missing after an Iraninan missile hit Beit Shemesh city, west of Jerusalem, in Israel.
In an X post, the Israel Defense Forces accused Iran of destroying a building completely and “killing innocent civilians”.
The fresh attack is an escalation of the long-running conflict after coordinated strikes by United States and Israel on Iranian territory, on Saturday, killed top Iranian officials, including Khamenei.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said sirens blared across central and southern Israel as incoming missiles prompted widespread air-raid alerts, with air-defence systems deployed to intercept incoming threats.
The Iranian government has described the missile fire as a retaliatory response to what it termed “aggression” by the United States and Israel, whose air campaign targeted military and strategic sites in Iran.
The Iranian strikes have also extended to Gulf Arab states and US bases in the region, widening the geographic scope of hostilities.
