Nigerian music superstar Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has sparked a heated debate with his latest social media post.

In the post he shared on Facebook, Burna Boy criticises the perceived double standards in global politics and media coverage, pointing to the differing reactions to conflicts in Ukraine and Iran.

Burna Boy’s statement is a reaction to the recent conflict in Iran, particularly the killing of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a joint US-Israel airstrike on February 28, 2026.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in a joint US-Israeli airstrike on February 28, 2026.

He was 86 years old and had been in power since 1989, succeeding Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. The attack, which targeted his compound in Tehran, also claimed the lives of several family members and senior officials.

Khamenei’s death has sparked widespread reactions, with some Iranians celebrating and others mourning, and has plunged the country into uncertainty.

However, Burna Boy wrote, “Some of you will shout when Russia moves in Ukraine… But suddenly go blind when the West bombs Iran. That’s not justice. That’s propaganda.” He further emphasized the role of media in shaping public opinion, stating, “The same media that programmed your mind also taught you who to hate.”

The artist also touched on the issue of alleged Islamophobia, saying, “Hatred for Islam has made many people blind to the truth.” Burna Boy declared his stance, stating, “Today I don’t fight for their wars. I fight for peace, freedom, and real financial education.”

He concluded with a warning, “No be every narrative dem sell for TV be truth. Open your eyes. Take care.”

The singer also shared a picture of himself and the late Supreme Leader which appeared to be AI generated.

The post has garnered significant attention and sparked a wave of reactions from fans and critics alike.

Recall that Burna Boy recently revealed he has converted to Islam, citing a quest for truth, after deep personal research and reflection.

His associate, Rahman Jago, confirmed the news, sharing a video of Burna Boy praising Allah with a caption “Allahu Akbar”. Burna Boy himself opened up about his spiritual journey during a Twitch live session with PlaqueBoyMax, stating he was raised Christian but found peace in Islam.
