Nollywood actress Ireti Doyle has opened up on her approach to handling personal matters, stressing the importance of privacy and emotional healing following the end of her marriage to fellow actor Patrick Doyle.
In a recent interview with media personality Morayo Afolabi Brown, the actress explained that her decision to stay silent about the divorce was intentional, rooted in her belief that not every life event should be subjected to public scrutiny.
“You didn’t hear anything because it wasn’t your business,” she said, underscoring her stance that the details of a failed marriage remain deeply personal. “At the end of the day, the only people you might owe any explanation to are those who were there at the beginning.”
Rather than engage public curiosity, Doyle criticised the growing trend of discussing relationship issues on social media, warning that such actions often bring little value to those involved.
“The audience you are performing for does not care. I would never knowingly turn myself into clickbait. You’re never going to win, so who exactly are you explaining things to?” she said.
She shifted the conversation toward self-reflection, noting that the energy spent trying to justify personal decisions publicly would be better invested in understanding what went wrong.
“The end of a long-term relationship is painful, regardless of the circumstances. Instead of performing for people, it’s more important to sit with yourself, reflect deeply, and learn from the experience so you don’t repeat the same mistakes,” she added.
Doyle’s comments come years after she and Patrick Doyle went their separate ways. Although their separation reportedly occurred earlier, the marriage— which lasted nearly two decades—was officially dissolved in 2023.
