The Kano State Government has announced plans to sponsor the weddings of over 1,000 repentant thugs who recently surrendered their weapons and renounced violence.

According to the Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the initiative is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s efforts to support youths who have turned away from crime.

“We will provide support to these youths, including sponsoring their weddings, to help them start a new life,” Sheikh Daurawa said at the event held at the Police Headquarters in Bompai.

He cautioned the youths to ensure their repentance is genuine and urged others who have not yet surrendered to take advantage of the programme.

Governor Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, stated that the government will provide the repentant youths with start-up funds, vocational training, and educational opportunities.

The police and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) will also screen the youths to confirm the sincerity of their repentance.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the government’s commitment to fighting crime and giving young people a second chance.

The repentant youths, including Kamilu and Buzu Mai Kidan Gangi, expressed gratitude to the government and stakeholders for supporting their decision to change.
