The Kebbi State Government has shed light on the incident that occurred at Bagudo General Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday, providing clarity on the circumstances surrounding the event.
A statement issued by Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Media and Publicity, clarified that a fire was the cause of the explosion at Bagudo General Hospital, contradicting social media reports suggesting a bomb blast.
According to Sarki, the Secretary to the State Government confirmed that initial findings and security reports point to a fire in the hospital staff quarters as the source of the loud explosion, ruling out any explosive device.
The government official stated that the Kebbi State Government is collaborating with the police and other security agencies, who have taken charge of the situation.
He assured residents that there were no casualties, adding that although a building was damaged, all occupants had safely evacuated the area before the explosion.
The Secretary to the State Government appealed for calm, warning against the spread of unverified information that could spark unnecessary panic.
He stressed that security agencies, including the police, military, and other units, are on the scene managing the situation, with investigations underway to determine the fire’s exact cause.
The Kebbi State Government praised the swift response of the state police command and other security agencies for securing the area and ensuring public safety.
The government reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
