The 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has successfully intercepted a vehicle transporting a substantial consignment of cannabis within the Agbede operational zone, situated in the Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

As stated by Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, in a communiqué released Tuesday via NigerianArmyInfo, the interception forms part of sustained efforts to dismantle drug-trafficking networks implicated in banditry and associated criminal activities prevalent within Kogi State.

“The operation carried out on Monday saw troops on patrol intercept a red Toyota Camry with registration number ABJ 325LA transporting illegal substances from Ekiti State to Borno State,” the statement said.

It added that the driver, identified as Mr Hamisu Sule, attempted to evade arrest by fleeing after sighting the troops’ checkpoint, “employed intermittently along transit routes to frustrate the use of such routes as a transit corridor.”

The vehicle was later pursued and apprehended along the Apata–Lokoja Road in Lokoja Local Government Area.

“A total of 306 parcels of Cannabis Sativa weighing 276 kilograms were recovered

“Both the driver and the seized items have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kogi Command, for further action,” the statement read.

The Brigade reassured residents of its commitment to sustaining security operations in the state, saying, “The Nigerian Army remains fully committed to protecting lives and property, maintaining a robust presence across the state, and preventing criminals from operating with impunity.”

In a related incident, a week ago, Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, intercepted a major courier conveying a significant consignment of cannabis sativa from Ekiti State to Obajana in Kogi State.

The operation, when troops deployed at the Agbede Response Area conducted a routine stop-and-search on a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU, a thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa weighing 108.8kg, concealed in the car.
