The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kogi State Chapter, has called for a full-scale investigation into the alleged electrification project in Kogi East Senatorial District, citing concerns over possible misappropriation of public funds.
In a press release signed by State Chairman Usman Samuel Ogohi on Wednesday, the NYCN expressed dismay at the glaring disconnect between government claims and the reality on the ground.
Communities in Kogi East have reportedly remained without electricity for over a decade, despite government assurances and reported implementation of the project.
The controversy surrounds a contract awarded for the electrification project, with the Kogi State Governor publicly questioning the outcome despite years of reported implementation.
The NYCN noted that the previous administration had claimed the project was near completion, further heightening suspicions of wrongdoing.
“The apparent disconnect between these claims and the lived reality of affected communities is disturbing,” Ogohi said.
The Council resolved to petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the award, funding, and execution of the project.
The investigation will aim to ascertain the actual status of the project, identify any breaches of due process, and ensure accountability where wrongdoing is established.
The NYCN emphasised that this action is not an attack on any administration, but a civic intervention aimed at protecting public resources and advancing the welfare of citizens, particularly young people and underserved communities in Kogi East.

“The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kogi State Chapter, believes that an independent investigation by the EFCC will help clarify the issues raised, restore public confidence, and reinforce accountability in public infrastructure development.
“The Council remains open to engagement with relevant institutions and will continue to pursue constructive, lawful, and dialogue-driven advocacy in the interest of Kogi State and its people.”
The move has been welcomed by residents of Kogi East, who have long suffered from inadequate power supply.
