Some officers of the Kwara State Police Command have been arrested for allegedly extorting money from a student of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, identified as Taiwo Kayode Taye.
The development was disclosed to the Daily Post by the state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, on Tuesday.
The police boss expressed disappointment over the conduct of the officers involved when the matter was brought to his attention.
He assured that a discreet investigation would be conducted and that justice would be served.
It was recalled that officers of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the state police command allegedly arrested, detained, and extorted the sum of N200,000 from the polytechnic student after forcing him to unlock his phone.
Taiwo was reportedly stopped at Erin-Ile town, in Oyun Local Government Area, while travelling to Osogbo, Osun State, in a commercial vehicle.
Following his refusal to unlock his phone, the student was taken to the Ijagbo Police Division by the officers, where he again declined to comply.
He was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Ilorin.
While at the police command in Ilorin, officers at the CID allegedly forced him to unlock his phone and transferred N200,000 to a bank account owned by one Lucy Akor.
