The Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party, Chief Clement Ojukwu, has dismissed as false, reports claiming he has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ojukwu expressed his commitment to the Labour Party, stating, “I remain a loyal member of the Labour Party and have no intention of abandoning the party I helped build.”

Ojukwu acknowledged that some of his associates, including Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have defected to the ADC, but assured that millions of party supporters remain loyal to the current leadership under Barrister Julius Abure.

“I can guarantee you that millions of our party supporters are still intact and have pledged allegiance to the present leadership of the party led by Barrister Julius Abure,” he said.

Ojukwu reaffirmed the party’s commitment to social democracy, stating, “We have elected to continue to preach for social democracy ideology which we believe that the nation needs at this point in time.”

He expressed confidence in the party’s future, saying, “We are confident that 2027, for us in Labour Party, will be a year of pleasant surprises. We did it in 2023 and we can do it again.”

Ojukwu urged party members to remain calm and hopeful, concluding with the phrase, “Forward ever, backward never.”
