The police have intervened to manage a protest on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, Nigeria. The protest was sparked by residents of Iyana Oworosonki, who are upset over the demolition of buildings in their community.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, and officers of the command arrived at the scene to manage the situation.

The demolition, carried out by a combined enforcement team of the Lagos State Government, began on Saturday, September 6, and has left many residents displaced.

The protesters, armed with placards with inscriptions such as “Stop demolishing our house” and “Stop demolishing our life,” had earlier taken over the Oworonshoki axis of the Third Mainland Bridge, causing heavy traffic.

An update shared by the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on New Media, Jubril Gawat, confirmed that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos Command, have since cleared the road.

“The backlog on the bridge is still much but moving steadily,” Gawat wrote on his X handle, assuring motorists that traffic is gradually easing.
