Lagos urges Trade Fair Complex to take advantage of permit amnesty

As part of its regulatory efforts, the Lagos State Government has called on the Trade Fair Complex to leverage the Planning Permit Amnesty and bring their building permits up to date, just like other MDAs.

This was revealed by Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, during a meeting at his Alausa, Ikeja office on Tuesday.

The ministry’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Adetola Kehinde-Akinsanya, in a statemnt he signed quoted Olumide to have said that several Federal Government Agencies, including the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) and Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), have initiated the process of regularizing their buildings under the current Amnesty Programme.

He encouraged the management of the International Trade Fair Complex to seize the opportunity provided by the amnesty window, approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to obtain planning permits for their structures, in line with other government agencies.

“Building Approval is not negotiable for all structures within the confines of Lagos State as stipulated by the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law 2019 as amended,” he said.

He stressed that building owners without approval must take advantage of the programme to avoid future enforcement, noting that planning approval is crucial to achieving the state’s goal of a livable and sustainable city.

The current Amnesty window, third of its kind under Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu administration, runs from 1st November to 31st December 2025, during which the usual penal fees will be waived.
