The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Saturday, announced that six public toilet facilities were sealed over indiscriminate discharge of waste.
In a statement he made on X, Wahab said the operation was carried out by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on Friday.
He noted that the facilities were discharging untreated sewage into public drainage in the Idi Araba area of the state.
He wrote, “The perpetrators have been found to be in the habit of committing this illegality instead of engaging accredited sewage desludgers to evacuate the septic tanks.
“The agency also sealed-off TPDC (The Patience Diekola Court, Olugborogo Street, Lekki, Eti-Osa, Lagos, for deliberate discharge of Wastewater into the public drains and Environment; and Brickle Apartment 4, Fatai Arobieke Street, Lekki, Lagos, for deliberate discharge of untreated wastewater into the public drains, and obstruction of duty by denying official inspections to the property which are in contravention of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017.
“Every form of environmental pollution endangers public health and perpetrators will be appropriately sanctioned in line with the provisions of the Law.
“Lagosians are therefore enjoined to embrace proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to safeguard public health and ensure environmental sustainability.”
