LASTMA, LASAMBUS rescue three in Lagos road crashes

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) have rescued three lives in two separate road crashes across Lagos.

The incidents occurred due to excessive speed and hazardous road conditions caused by incessant rainfall, a statement by Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA confirmed.

Taofiq, on Wednesday, said the first incident is a lone accident involving a Ford automobile, with registration number APP 413 YH.

He said it occurred along Ozumba Mbadiwe Road by Kofo Abayomi Junction, inward Kilimanjaro/Law School, Victoria Island.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver, regrettably unrestrained by a seatbelt, lost mastery of the vehicle owing to reckless velocity compounded by the rain-slicked roadway.

“The violent collision caused the motorist to strike his chest forcefully against the steering wheel, rendering him critically unconscious,” Taofiq explained.

He added that the victim was resuscitated on-site by personnel of LASAMBUS before he was conveyed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

In a related incident, Taofiq said a multiple-vehicle collision occurred between a Coaster bus (NCA 118 XB) and a Mini bus (FKJ 118 XB) at Volks, inward Abule-Ado.

“Investigations disclosed that the coaster bus, travelling at an inordinate speed on the slippery highway, lost control amidst the torrential downpour and violently rammed into the mini bus,” he said.

Collaborating with medical responders, Taofiq said LASTMA personnel rescued two injured male victims and transported them to GMC Hospital, Ilaje, Abule-Ado for immediate treatment.

Reacting to the incidents, LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists to exercise caution and reduce speed during the rainy season to prevent accidents.

He wished the accident victims a speedy recovery and reiterated LASTMA’s commitment to safeguarding human lives and ensuring public safety in Lagos.
