The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has commenced a full-scale investigation into allegations that some of its officers extorted ₦100,000 from commercial drivers along Coastal Road in Lagos.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, said the agency was responding to a social media post circulating on Facebook by a platform identified as Objectv Media.

The report quoted an individual, Tosin, who alleged that LASTMA officials had been arresting commercial buses and demanding ₦100,000 for their release.

Reacting, the agency dismissed any suggestion of institutional complicity, stressing its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct.

“The Authority wishes to state unequivocally that it views such allegations with utmost seriousness, as LASTMA remains a disciplined, professional and ethically guided government institution that does not, under any circumstances, condone misconduct, abuse of office or extortion by any of its personnel,” the statement read.

Taofiq disclosed that a “thorough, impartial and comprehensive investigation” had already commenced, assuring that any officer found culpable would face strict disciplinary measures in line with established regulations.

“This inquiry has already commenced in earnest and the Authority assures the public that any Officer found culpable upon the conclusion of due investigation processes will face the full wrath of the law,” he added.

As part of efforts to establish the facts, LASTMA invited the complainant to formally present evidence to back the allegation.

“The Authority hereby extends an open invitation to the individual identified as Tosin to appear at the Office of the General Manager, LASTMA Headquarters, Oshodi and present concrete and verifiable evidence to substantiate his claims, as the burden of proof lies squarely upon he who makes the allegation,” the statement said.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, LASTMA urged members of the public to report any form of misconduct through official channels.

LASTMA noted that it remains dedicated to upholding professionalism, integrity and public trust in traffic management across Lagos State.
