Former Director, Department of State Service, Mike Ejiofor, has blasted the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for starting campaigns two years before the election.
Ejiofor also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stop the political parties from ruining the nation, warning that over 80 percent of the country’s security challenges were politically motivated.
He also called on President Bola Tinubu to focus more on governance instead of being in the middle of 2027 politics.
Speaking in an interview on Arise News, Ejiofor said, “Every well-meaning Nigerian, every patriotic Nigerian should be worried about this political development of campaigns two years before the election.
“We have a lot of security challenges facing us, and our security agencies are trying to contain these issues.
“But if you look at all these political alignments, realignment, movements and movements, you know, coalitions, these are posing threats to our national security.
“And like I’ve always maintained, over 80% of our security challenges are politically motivated, and the politicians are at it again.
“I believe that the government should, on its own, concentrate on governance now, it’s too early in the day for all the political parties to be campaigning, forming alignments, endorsing candidates.”
He added that, “ADC has three aspirants already; APC will be endorsing the president. The Labour Party is in disarray. And all these things are challenges that, if not checked…I was happy this morning when I read in the papers that INEC…but I expected it to have come earlier, has warned political parties of their conduct.
“It is not sufficient to warn them, they must take action to stop them from all these activities that are likely going to cause a lot of security problems for our security agencies.”
