NCAA Summons Domestic Airlines for Crucial Meeting

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned all domestic airlines across the country to a stakeholders’ meeting.

The meeting, scheduled for Wednesday at the NCAA headquarters in Abuja, was confirmed by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, via his X handle on Tuesday.

According to Achimugu, some passengers were invited to join the meeting. Although he was silent on how the selection was made.

He wrote, “The NCAA has invited all domestic airlines to a meeting in Abuja slated for tomorrow, Wednesday.

“Among the issues to be treated are: Unruly passenger behaviour and passenger handling protocols, unresolved refund/compensation issues, and introduction of RFID bag tags and flight monitoring technology.

He continued with the issues to be treated saying, “Enforcement of phone switch-off instruction and protection for cabin crew, and improved travel experience for passengers.

He added that the meeting will be live on the NCAA’s official X and Facebook accounts.

This comes barely 24 hours after the NCAA emphasised that airlines must uphold the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, particularly Part 19, which outlines specific obligations to passengers in the event of delays or cancellations, including providing hotel accommodations for stranded travelers between 10:00 pm and 4:00 am.

The regulatory body stated its readiness to begin “naming and shaming” airlines that consistently flout aviation rules particularly those that delay or cancel flights without due process or passenger support.
