NDLEA recovers 86,000 pills of opioids, detains 4 suspects

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has recovered about 86,000 opioid pills and arrested four suspects in connection with the seized drugs in Katsina State.NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Mr Femi Babafemi, said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.Babafemi said the four suspects were arrested and detained on Friday, March 28.This, he said was during an intelligence-led raid operation at Godai village in Daura LGA, Katsina where 684 blocks of compressed skunk, a strain of cannabis weighing 423kg were also recovered“In addition to the 86,000 pills of diazepam which was all recovered from them. The three male suspects were arrested while repackaging the diazepam tablets into other containers while the female suspect was apprehended with the heaps of skunk in her house,” he said.According to him, not less than 13,198 kilograms of cannabis sativa were destroyed in Edo forests across parts of the state between Monday, March 24, and Friday, March 28, by NDLEA operatives.Babafemi said that the operatives also evacuated 158kg of the same substance for possible prosecution.Similarly, he said that the operatives discovered and destroyed no fewer than four cannabis plantations in Uhen forest, Ovia North East LGA; Sobe, Owan West LGA; and Amahor forest in Igueben LGA.“Also, in Niger, NDLEA officers on patrol along Mokwa-Jebba road on March 28, intercepted a black Toyota Corolla car marked SLM 137 SV and arrested the two occupants.“The two suspects had 179 blocks of compressed skunk with a total weight of 77.6kg concealed in the false bottom of the vehicle.“In another operation, a 50kg skunk was on Saturday, March 29 recovered from the home of a suspect, who is currently at large, in Wawa village, Borgu council area of the state.“108.5kg of skunk was recovered from lockup shops at Aria New Market, in Enugu metropolis, Enugu State, by NDLEA operatives on Tuesday, March, 25.“Another 25kg of the same substance was seized from another suspect at Kilako Area of Ilorin, Kwara, on March 24.“A 59-year-old suspect was nabbed with 2.5 kilograms of Ghanaian Loud and 515 grams of Colorado, at Olomi Academy area of Ibadan, Oyo state, “he said.He noted that with the same vigour, commands and formations of the Agency across the country would continue their War Against Drug Abuse.“Sensitisation activities to schools, worship centres, workplaces, and communities, among others in the past week,” he said.“These include: WADA sensitisation lecture to students and staff of Blessed Martins International School, Abakaliki, Ebonyi.“Others are, Model Ideal College, Enugu; Oto-Awori Senior Secondary School, Ijanikin, Lagos state; and Command Secondary School, Numan, Adamawa, among others.
