New service chiefs arrive NASS for screening

The newly appointed Service Chiefs have arrived at the National Assembly to undergo screening, marking a key step in their appointment process.

They arrived at the NASS Complex about 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Senate had on Tuesday brought forward the screening to Wednesday, October 29, reversing its earlier decision to conduct the exercise next week.

The announcement followed a correspondence from President Bola Tinubu, read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, seeking Senate confirmation of Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede’s appointment.

Akpabio stated that the change was necessary to allow the military chiefs to assume their duties immediately.

President Bola Tinubu has urged the Senate to expedite the confirmation process, ensuring continuity and effective coordination of the nation’s security architecture.

On October 24, the President reshuffled the Service Chiefs, appointing General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.

Other appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshall S. K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.

Chief of Defence Intelligence Major-General E.A.P Undiendeye retains his position, according to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President, Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, last Friday.
