The Nigeria-Britain Association, in partnership with LiveWell Initiative, has reaffirmed its commitment to preventive healthcare and community wellbeing with the successful hosting of its 2026 Health Fair in Lagos.

The event, held on March 28 at the British Council, brought together healthcare professionals, wellness advocates, and members of the public for a day of integrated health services, education, and engagement.

Themed “Attaining Boisterous Health and Wellbeing amidst a Fast World,” the fair focused on raising awareness about proactive health practices and addressing the growing pressures of modern lifestyles.

Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer of LiveWell Initiative and N-BA Council member, Dr Bisi Bright, stressed the importance of personal responsibility in maintaining good health.

“Individuals must take responsibility for their wellbeing by making informed choices, embracing early diagnosis, practicing basic hygiene, managing emotions, and staying consistently hydrated,” she said.

Her presentation highlighted key areas such as lifestyle management, stress control, nutrition, resilience, and the prevention of non-communicable diseases, while advocating a holistic approach to healthcare.

President of the Nigeria-Britain Association, Sola Oyetayo, described the initiative as part of the association’s broader sustainability agenda.

“Health is wealth,” he said, noting that the programme aims to promote healthier communities not only among members but also within the wider Nigerian and Commonwealth community.

Also speaking, N-BA Council Member, Funmilola Orokale, underscored the importance of awareness and early detection.

“The initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring greater health awareness and early detection of underlying conditions through accessible and respectful screening processes,” she stated.

The health fair featured over 50 healthcare professionals and offered a wide range of free medical services. These included cardiovascular and metabolic checks such as blood pressure and blood sugar tests, as well as screenings for infectious diseases like HIV, hepatitis, and malaria.

Participants also had access to specialized services including prostate screening, breast examinations, eye tests, dental and dermatological care, alongside nutrition counselling, mental health support, and neurological assessments.

A fully equipped pharmacy stand provided free medications and professional guidance, while individuals requiring visual support were given recommended eyeglasses at no cost.

Free condoms were also distributed to adults, accompanied by counselling on responsible sexual behaviour.

Beyond clinical services, the event incorporated fitness sessions, recreational activities, and healthy nutrition options such as fruits, salads, smoothies, and juices, encouraging sustainable lifestyle changes.

Organisers reported strong participation, with over 100 registered attendees and additional walk-in participants, many of whom commended the initiative for providing multiple healthcare services in one location and improving awareness for informed health decisions.

The Nigeria-Britain Association said it remains committed to fostering socio-cultural, educational, and developmental ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, while advancing initiatives that enhance public wellbeing.

Meanwhile, the LiveWell Initiative reiterated its focus on promoting preventive healthcare through community-driven programmes and strategic partnerships.
