The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a warning to Nigerians about a fake National Identification Number (NIN) correction link circulating online, urging citizens to be cautious and avoid the fraudulent link.
In a statement on its official X handle, NIMC warned the public to ignore a viral flyer advertising a “free” NIN data correction portal, labelling it a scam.
NIMC stressed that the link provided in the flyer is not authorised and should not be used for any form of data modification.
“The public is hereby advised not to use the above for modifying their NIN data. All modifications should only be done via the official channel: [https://selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng,” the commission stated.
The misleading flyer, which has gained traction across social media platforms, features the logos of NIMC and the Federal Government, falsely claiming that a correction portal was opened following a “high level of complain.”
It also lists several data update options, including name, gender and date of birth corrections, while directing users to an unofficial “gvly.xyz” domain.
NIMC noted that the flyer had been marked “fake” and is being recirculated as part of efforts to alert the public.
The commission reiterated that all NIN data modifications can only be carried out through its official self-service portal, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to online scams.
